I'm pleasantly sore as we walk. It reminds me of how amazing sex with Ladon is. I can't stop thinking about it as we travel and the landscape around us starts to change. As we come to the top of a hill I catch my first glimpse of what looks like a city on the horizon. I look at Ladon and point. He points and says a word which I try to mimic. It takes me a few tries before I get it right. Ladon smiles and nods excitedly then points at the horizon again.
"Home?" I ask.
He nods again and I think I get it. We continue on our way with him helping me to travel. Over the last several days it's become incredibly obvious how well adapted to this environment he is. His wings aren't intended to let him fly but to let him move across the loose sand without trouble. Where every step I take I sink in and have to fight my way free to take the next one he walks as light as a feather.
I know I'm on the verge of heat exhaustion again. The water is not replacing the electrolytes in my system. My headache is unending, my throat is always dry no matter how much water, and I stopped sweating yesterday. The meat from his kill helps more than anything surprisingly enough. I don't understand how or why but I'd love to have some time in my lab with samples of it. It helps but it doesn't completely fix my body's need for hydration.
I keep pushing on hoping that things will get better somehow. As the horizon grows near it becomes clear that it really is a city but it looks like one that has been devastated by war. Once tall towers are now shells of their former glory. The closer we come the more obvious it is that this place has seen tragedy. Entering into the city is like stepping from the desert into a civilization after it's been abandoned. The streets are lined with a hard material that has a slight spring to it which gives a buoyancy to each step I take.
Ladon smiles and leads me deeper in and it isn't long before we come to a large open square at the center of which is a pyramid-ish structure. In front of it is a square made of what looks like concrete rising a foot from the ground. In the center of this square is a statue of a man, well an alien-dragon man like Ladon, which is at least twice as large as Ladon. His wings are spread, one hand holds a weapon similar to Ladon's at his side while the other is raised towards the sky and holds long strands of something that looks like seaweed. Looking it over, the construct appears to have once been a fountain.
Ladon barely spares a glance forward as he leads us past and up to a door that goes into the pyramid building.
